A great timber poncho.

Municipal building. Public competition.

New municipal building for Curaco de Vélez, on a 75 by 40 m site facing the town’s Plaza Central in Chiloé. The project proposes one great interior, an “urban lock”: a glazed nave runs through the building and links its programmes, sheltered by a timber structure inspired by the Williche poncho. One of the two naves is translucent, a glass greenhouse that houses the auditorium and craft fair on the ground floor, with the mayor’s office and council chamber hanging from the upper level. Laminated timber, Aluzinc steel and glass articulate the structure and façade.
