BIM methodology
We develop our projects with BIM (Building Information Modeling). The model is the basis for coordinating architecture, structure and building services, resolving clashes before construction and delivering useful information for building and operating the asset.
Principles
Collaboration
BIM combines people, processes and technology; people are what matters most. We work with clients and consultants so the whole team benefits from digital workflows.
openBIM
Processes built on open standards (IFC, BCF, COBie), so each party can work with the software of its choice without losing information.
Information quality
Structured, reliable and reusable models, with checking rules that allow them to be used for quantities, analysis and asset management.
Standards
Processes aligned with Chile’s PlanBIM standard and the international ISO 19650 standard.
Tools
We model each discipline in 3D and review the federated models to detect clashes and manage issues between architecture, structure and services.
Research
Alongside our projects, we research how information flows between technologies and bring it into our teaching.
Coordination of disciplines
For Universidad de Aysén’s foundational building in Coyhaique, the architecture, structure and services models were brought together in a federated IFC model. The process included clash detection, requests for information to each consultant, coordination sections for shafts and ceiling voids, and coordination drawings for construction.
The studio also carried out the BIM coordination of disciplines for the Universidad Andrés Bello campus in Viña del Mar, Meseta del Gallo.
BIM coordination at the studio is led by Francisco Cepeda, International Master in BIM Management (Zigurat).
